Our foreword writer is a former All-ACC guard, academic All-American and team captain for the N.C. State Wolfpack. Marissa has also captained Team USA in the Pan-American Games. She has played professional basketball with great success in Sweden, the Czech Republic, Puerto Rico and Poland. She lives life to the fullest and invariably has a contagious smile, and wherever she goes she is an ambassador for her country, her home state of Nebraska, N.C. State University, women’s basketball, and her Catholic Christian faith.

M.G. Potter is a nom de plume. Principal author Mike Potter, a graduate of the College of William & Mary, is a career sports writer who has covered at last count 28 sports, with primary emphases on team sports at the pro, college and high school levels. He has won five awards as either the CIAA sports writer of the year (thrice) or North Carolina state baseball writer of the year (by the Raleigh Hot Stove League.) A Chicago native who grew up in Charlotte and attended high school in Richmond, Virginia, he has worked for newspapers in the cities of Williamsburg, Franklin and Danville in Virginia, and Durham and Raleigh in North Carolina. He has attended and written about World Series and Stanley Cup Final games as well as NCAA Championship finals in basketball, baseball, soccer, track and field, wrestling and field hockey and has been a poll voter for the Atlantic Coast Conference, both NCAA Division II and Black College football, and state Associated Press prep polls.
